Please see the following announcement for a lionfish control strategy
workshop to be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from July 17-20, 2014.
Invasive lionfish (Pterois volitans and P. miles) have spread throughout the
broader Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico region and are being shown to cause
significant impacts to native marine species. Local control efforts through
diver removals have been shown to have positive effects by reducing lionfish
populations and minimizing impacts to native marine life. Control
strategies including opportunistic diver removals and organized removal
events such as adopt a reef programs and lionfish derbies are becoming
