very prominent sponsors about the value of diversity in a
research-education expedition like this - and the damage lack of
diversity can cause.
The message that Caribbean kids are likely to take home when they meet
the THIRTY-ONE team members (all of whom, with the possible exception
of Santos, appear to be non-Latino Caucasians) is that only white
people have the education, skills, support and aspirations necessary to
take part in such an endeavor. What a way to quash our curiosity and
